Before I get into some background on myself and my blog, I know the question you're all asking is "how do I pronounce the name of this blog??" I tried typing out how the phonetic pronunciation, but realized if you're not familiar with German pronunciation it probably wouldn't help much, so instead here is how it should sound.
Fernweh is like the German word for Wanderlust (since Americans stole it from the Germans). Heimweh is the German word for homesickness and fernweh is kind of it's opposite - it's a longing for experience and travel in far-away places. I love this description of it's meaning if you want more background on the word!
Now that we've covered the fernweh part of the name, what about fashion? I always wanted to start a blog but it took me a while to convince myself to go for it. I was intimidated by the blogs I followed and how many followers they had and how frequently they posted. Being the perfectionist that I am, I knew if I created a blog I wanted it to be successful, and in order to be successful, it had to be different from everything else that was already out there. At first, I couldn't figure out how to differentiate myself. A bunch of the blogs I found when looking for inspiration were just pictures of outfits and maybe one paragraph thrown in. I was most inspired and loved following blogs that were more than just great pictures. Fashion and Fernweh combines style and substance.
I go to school in Washington, D.C. and live in New York City and I absolutely love both cities. I wanted to share things like the food, culture and things to do in both places, as well as a little bit about my life while wearing cute outfits that didn't require purchasing new and expensive pieces on a weekly basis. Fashion and Fernweh is a representation of me - my German background, my interest in communication, and my love of travel and fashion.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
Lets be friends!
